The opening poem
“How to Use This Journal” — as a verse.
Most journals open with instructions. Ours opens with a poem: eight stanzas that give the writer full permission to skip, wander and write at their own pace. Four of them, from the journal itself:
Walk with a Gentle Pace
There is no race, and no clock on the wall,
Let your memory wake to a soft, quiet call.
No question's a door you are bound to pass through,
Skip on, or turn back, to the ones that ring true.
If the words come in floods or arrive soft and slow,
Honour the ones that the heart longs to show.
The Spaces Between
When stories rise up that no prompt thought to seek,
The blank 'Untold' pages will let your heart speak.
A doodle, a photo, a quote held with care—
The strays of your spirit can all settle there.
These pages are yours, neither ruled nor confined:
White fields for the tales that you carry behind.
The Voices of Your Kin
The soul who first gave you this book has a voice,
The questions that gather in love, not by choice.
On 'Questions from Kin' they may write what they'd hear:
The stories they yearn for, the wisdom held dear.
So answer with warmth what they finally dare;
No question stays lost while you both linger there.
A Journey to Savour
So relish this journey, the light and the truth,
From the wisdom of age to the fire of youth.
Let it carry your laughter, your tears, and your grace,
A keepsake your loved ones will hold and embrace.
This gift is a treasure, a delight through and through,
For the heart of this story... is simply just you.
